MAY WORSHIP May 5th/6th: Holy Communion
Pastor Suzanne's messge for May 19th and 20th:
Dear friends of First UMC, I look forward to gathering with you to worship God this weekend! We will remember the ascension of Jesus and the mission we are called to as his followers. The scriptures Acts 1:1-11 and John 13:1-17 will guide us in our worship. In our 9:15 service we will recognize all of our children and teens who have had high attendance in our Christian Education activities this school year and thank all of our teachers who serve so faithfully and help us grow in our faith and connection to community. Relay For Life will take place this Saturday at North Park. The event begins with a Survivor Lap at 1pm. We will have walkers on the track from that point until 8am Sunday morning. You are invited to come and walk, cheer our team on, or join us for the very meaningful luminary memorial service at dusk. Our team camp site is 45, just past the concession stand toward the tennis courts. Summer is coming quickly and that means Vacation Bible School! This year will be a big splash with Operation Overboard. Our registration is now open. Please remember that our morning session fills up very quickly so register your children and grandchildren and invite your friends today! You can register online at: http://www.overboard.cokesburyvbs.com/fumcofspringboro. We will celebrate Graduate Sunday on June 3rd. If you are graduating or have a graduate in your family, we would like to recognize these accomplishments. Please turn in your graduate's name, place of graduation, degree, and future plans to the church office. We extend our love and sympathy to Wendy Waller and her family in the loss of her mother this week. Please keep them in your prayers as they grieve her loss and travel to Georgia to remember and celebrate her life. Please also keep in your prayers: Mariel Pesavento as she recovers from foot surgery and Maxine Spenser who spent several days this week in the hospital. May God’s grace and peace surround you today. Dog/God Video from a Recent Weekend Service Pastor Suzanne showed this wonderful video during our servicesrecently. Here's a link to it so you can enjoy it again (and maybe again....)
A word from Pastor Suzanne... Dear friends, As you might know, the United Methodist Church is organized as a connectional system. All United Methodist Churches meet together yearly in Annual Conferences and representatives from each Annual Conference gather together every four years for General Conference to provide oversight and direction for The United Methodist Church as a whole. General Conference will take place this year from April 24th-May 4th. Quite a bit of significant legislation will be voted on that will impact the future of our church including issues around the appointment of pastors and restructuring of our general boards and agencies. I encourage you to be in prayer for our church and the delegates representing us as they make these very important decisions. Our Annual Conference will meet from June 10th-13th at Lakeside, Ohio. Gary Haun will once again be our lay delegate. In preparation for General Conference, Bishop Robert Schnase has written a daily post for the website Ministry Matters called “Remember the Future.” I wanted to share his post with you on how we came to be organized through conferences (article on pages 4 and 5 of the May newsletter). I hope you enjoy reading a little bit more about who we are as United Methodists. Blessings! Pastor Suzanne
Photos Are Up! Here are the photos from Palm Sunday. Not only do we have pictures of the children old enough to wave the palms now, we also have pictures of two babies who will be old enough to march with the other children before we know it. Look for photos of little Will Hamilton, son of Kara and Mike Hamilton, and little Cooper Clark, grandson of Sharon Joseph. We've also got a picture of some of the folks who meet for the Holy Jave, the Bible Study that meets every Sunday at 9:15.
