Position Overview

To build young disciples for Christ by developing and implementing a comprehensive approach to youth ministry in the areas of group building, worship, discipleship, mission and outreach while serving as a spiritual leader and role model.

 

Principal Accountabilities

  • Be an advocate for youth and educate the congregation about the hopes, concerns and needs of youth in the local church and community.
  • Help plan, develop and implement all aspects of a balanced youth ministry in the areas of group building, worship, discipleship, mission and outreach.
  • Support and guide the work of the youth in an annual process of evaluating the vision and goals of the youth ministry and attend regular planning sessions, as needed
  • Mentor youth in developing their leadership skills.
  • Be aware of resources for developing the youth ministry programming and participate in continuing education events and training opportunities.
  • Recruit and train volunteers who work with youth in all aspects of youth ministry and ensure adequate volunteer support and adult to youth ratios.
  • Be a liaison between the Church and other community organizations, people and resources that relate to youth and youth ministries.
  • Assist the Senior Pastor as needed to support Confirmation classes and provide leadership for confirmands, mentors and parents beyond the classroom.
  • Keep records of youth participation and manage the youth ministry budget.
  • Communicate in a timely manner and as effectively as possible using all available resources (email, website, social media, church bulletin, newsletter, text, etc.).
  • Make yourself available to youth in a variety of ways (i.e., lunch at school, attendance at extracurricular activities, visitation, times of crisis, etc.).
  • Work in concert with the gifts and talents of other staff members and maintain a teamwork mentality.
  • Ensure that the Safe Sanctuary Policy is observed in all youth ministry settings.
     

 

 

 

Job Skills Required

  • 1-3 years’ experience managing youth and volunteers preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, conflict management skills and computer skills.
  • Have vision and a demonstrated ability to plan, develop, coordinate, manage and implement a youth ministry within the parameters of the United Methodist Church.
  • Possess a proven ability to work effectively with youth, diverse individuals and teams of volunteers.

·       Embrace Christian discipline and United Methodist beliefs, practices, and theology

·       Strong team player with staff and/or the congregation

 

Educational Requirement

  • College degree in related field preferred.

Nursery Attendant

Position Overview

The position of Nursery Attendant plays a major role at First United Methodist Church and in the care of children from ages 0 – 4 years old on Sunday mornings.  The Nursery Attendant ensures the nursery is a secure, nurturing environment where each child will see, hear, and feel the love of Jesus Christ.  The Nursery Attendant also ensures parents can feel confident their child will receive the highest quality of care and ministry. 

 

Principal Accountabilities

·       Be polite, friendly, and courteous to all children, parents, and volunteers

  • Maintain clear and effective communication and relationships with families of children, in order to maintain interest in the programs and encourage support and growth of the programs
  • Participate in care of the children through prayer, reading, physical care, and play
  • Service hours are approximately 9am – 12noon every Sunday and possibly for other events upon arrangement
  • Ensure the nursery is aesthetically pleasing to parents and children
  • Responsible for obtaining a contact method for the parents of all children using the nursery during services
  • Notify supervisor of needed supplies
  • Staff and other meetings and training as required
  • Ensuring that the Safe Sanctuary policy is followed at all times

 

Job Skills Required

  • A sense of call and passion for working with children and parents
  • Friendly, enthusiastic, and flexible team approach while with children, parents, staff, and other team members
  • Good communication skills
  • Understanding of Safe Sanctuary policy and its application
  • Passing of annual background check
  • May be required to obtain CPR certification
  • 18 years of age or older
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Embrace Christian discipline and United Methodist beliefs, practices, and theology
  • Strong team player with staff and/or the congregation
